Background:


Professor Wellbery's books include: Lessing's 'Laokoon.' Aesthetics and Semiotics in the Age of Reason; The Specular Moment. Goethe's Early Lyric and the Beginnings of Romanticism; and Schopenhauers Bedeutung für die moderne Literatur. In addition, he has edited several volumes. He is co-editor of the journal Deutsche Vierteljahrsschrift für Literaturwissenschaft und Geistesgeschichte and founding Director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Research on German Literature & Culture at the University of Chicago. In 2002 he was awarded a fellowship from the Carl Friedrich von Seimens Stiftung in Munich.
