Dr. Singh obtained his Ph.D. in 1984 from Northwestern University working with Dr. Lawrence Dumas. He pursued his postdoctoral training with Dr. Phillip Sharp at MIT from 1984-1988. During this time, he was a fellow of the Jane Coffin Childs Memorial Fund for Medical Research.

Singh has been a faculty member of the Department of Molecular Genetics and Cell Biology at the University of Chicago since 1989 and an Investigator with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. He is currently an editor of Molecular and Cellular Biology, a journal published by the American Society for Microbiology.
