Background:

Dauphas operates the Origins Laboratory, which he established in 2004. His wide-ranging interests include the origins of Earth's atmosphere and what meteorites reveal about the formation of the planets, asteroids and comets. In 2004, Dauphas and his colleagues validated a controversial interpretation of rocks from Greenland as the potential site for the earliest evidence of life on Earth. In 2005, he presented a new method for determining the age of the Milky Way. Dauphas is a recipient of the Nier Prize from the Meteoritical Society. The prize recognizes outstanding research in meteoritics and closely allied fields by scientists under the age of 35.
