Background:


Tomas Philipson's research and teaching expertise is in the field of health economics. He has worked extensively on issues of public health and longevity, including his current study on the growth of obesity. He is a faculty research fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research and a research affiliate of the National Opinion Research Center.

Philipson joined the University of Chicago in 1990 after receiving his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Pennsylvania. He is the recipient of numerous awards and fellowships, including those from the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, the John M. Olin Foundation, and the International Health Economics Association.
